- The Scintillating Grid Illusion -

Look at the illustration below.

Do you see the scintillating black dots at the intersections of the gray alleys as your eyes move around the image? Such black dots do not exist, however, looking at the grid produces the illusion of twinkling black spots.
This illusion is known as the "Scintillating Grid Illusion," and is a more powerful version of the "Hermann Grid Illusion." (See below)

Faint dark dots appear at the intersections of the white lines.
This illusion was discovered in 1870 by Ludimar Hermann.
