One day, a Nepalese engineer, who had received service training at NIDEK more than a decade ago, wrote to NIDEK: "I have been traveling around the countryside in Nepal as a volunteer to provide eye treatment to villagers and noticed the astonishingly low level of education. Please establish a school in Nepal to provide education and aid in the advancement of this country". This earnest plea won NIDEK's sympathy, leading to the foundation of "NIDEK Kalika High School" in Sundrawoti, Dolakha. The literacy rate is only 40% in Nepal, and NIDEK hopes that this school is contributing to the elevation of educational standards for Nepalese children.
