Simple two-step operation

The SZ-1 is designed for easy and quick operation using a simple two-step process for smooth advancement.


2.2 mm small incision

The SZ-1 can be used with a 2.2 mm small incision at the corneoscleral junction (a 2.4 mm incision size is required through the clear cornea).

Stable polymer by double-polymerization

Double-polymerization of monomers in the IOL decreases voids in the IOL structure resulting in a stable polymer. This unique structural architecture inhibits water components from coalescing and reduces the chances of glistening and whitening.
Unreacted monomers are eliminated to prevent structural decomposition and an increase in voids.

Unrivaled "made in Japan" quality

All the steps from IOL design to IOL material manufacturing are performed at NIDEK without any outsourcing. NIDEK formulates original acrylate materials for IOL manufacture.

Nano-precision Processing

The lOLs undergo “lathe cutting” which is controlled to the NANO-level to maximize IOL quality.

Fine-tuned functional design

Anchor wing loop

The 90° haptic design enlarges the contact area with the capsular bag resulting in a stable, well-centered IOL implantation.

360° square edge

A 360° square edge protects against migration of the lens epithelial cells into the back of the optic and the haptic junction, minimizing the risk of posterior capsule opacification.

Asperitic optic side surface

Asperitic optic side surface reduces intraocular reflection and optic edge glare.

Blast finishing

Blast finishing on the haptic surface reduces adherence to the optic surface during lens folding and improves the visibility of the haptic when the lens is loaded into the cartridge.

Yellow tinting for natural color perception

The tinting of the Aktis SP allows the yellow color density similar to that of a young-adult crystalline lens. It aims to provide the patient with natural color perception and contrast sensitivity in mesopic conditions.
