NIDEK CO., LTD., a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and distribution of ophthalmic equipment, is pleased to announce the CE mark for the Optical Biometer AL-Scan.
In 10 seconds the AL-Scan measures six required values for IOL calculation including axial length, corneal curvature radius, anterior chamber depth, central corneal thickness, white-to-white distance, and pupil size. To facilitate easy acquisition, NIDEK has incorporated 3-D auto tracking and auto shot. Proprietary measurement algorithms enhance the signal-to-noise ratio by decreasing noise and boosting the signal, enabling the AL-Scan to measure eyes with even dense cataract. For extremely dense cataracts, the AL-Scan has an optional built in ultrasound biometer, allowing measurement of virtually any cataractous eye.
Once measurement is completed, the IOL power is automatically calculated with eight IOL calculation formulas using the data it has acquired. A digital protractor is included for assistance in alignment of toric IOLs in the surgical suite. The AL-Scan represents a fundamental instrument for ophthalmic surgeons.
