Compliance with APEC Kuala Lumpur Principles
The Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA) has revised the Medical Device Industry Promotion Code in alignment with the spirit of the Kuala Lumpur Principles. These Principles are ethical guidelines established by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) for interactions within the medical device industry. The revised code went into effect on January 1, 2026 and it ensures greater transparency and fairness in relationships with healthcare institutions and healthcare professionals.
This revision mandates that providing small promotional items or cultural courtesy gifts is inappropriate. In compliance with this policy, NIDEK Co., Ltd. has proactively been implementing the appropriate measures across our organization. To further contribute to transparency within the medical device industry and the establishment of fair business practices, we will now discontinue the provision of the following items under a unified, company‑wide approach.
■ Small Promotional Items (Advertising/Promotional Goods)
- Novelty goods (e.g., stationery)
- Exhibition or event giveaway items
- Calendars, planners, and similar items
■ Cultural Courtesy Gifts
- Congratulatory or condolence offerings or flowers
- Seasonal gifts
- Souvenirs
NIDEK fully supports the principles of fairness and transparency in interactions with healthcare institutions and professionals. In accordance with this policy, we will continue to promote ethical and responsible corporate activities. We sincerely appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
NIDEK is a member of the Japan Medical-Optical Equipment Industrial Association (JMOIA) and the Japan Ophthalmic Instruments Association (JOIA), both of which are full members of the Japan Federation of Medical Devices Associations (JFMDA).
