NIDEK launches SZ-1C pre-loaded IOL injection system

NIDEK CO. LTD., a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of ophthalmic, optometric, and lens edging equipment, is pleased to announce the launch of SZ-1C pre-loaded IOL injection system.

The SZ-1C is a fully preloaded injector system with a clear aspheric hydrophobic soft acrylic lens designed for quick and easy implantation. A simple two-step process involves, filling the viscoelastic material and pressing the plunger (as a one-handed operation, if desired).

The SZ-1C is preloaded with the clear model single-piece Aktis SP IOL which has a stable lens material and innovative lens design. Double-polymerization of monomers during IOL production decreases the voids in the IOL structure resulting in a stable polymer. This unique structural architecture inhibits water components from coalescing and reduces the chance of glistening and whitening. All the steps from IOL design to IOL manufacturing are performed at NIDEK headquarters in Japan. By manufacturing the IOLs for SZ-1C at the headquarters, NIDEK can oversee the entire procedure from manufacturing of the acrylate to the final inspection.

NIDEK strives to exceed patient and surgeon expectations. To optimize postoperative outcomes, advanced features have been incorporated into the system including:
-A 360° square lens edge that enhances the bonding of the IOL surface to the posterior capsule minimizing the risk of posterior capsule opacification (PCO).
-The 90° anchor wing haptic enlarges the capsular contact area and securing intracapsular fixation.
-Blast finishing on the haptic surface reduces adherence and improves the visibility of the haptic during implantation.
-An asperitic optic side surface reduces intraocular light reflection, mitigating glare.
