NIDEK CO., LTD., an industry leader in visioncare diagnostics and optics, announced today that it was the recipient of the coveted “National Commendation for Innovation” award. NIDEK received this prestigious recognition for its innovation in peripheral processing of spectacle lenses.

The approbation and award was given to Japanese Patent No. 3011526, which acquires 3-demensional data of a lens frame, calculates the frame circumference, and corrects the bevel path data to compensate for the difference between the circumferences of bevel path and lens frame (Related Patents: Japan Patent No. 3547273; 3662203). This new innovation brings to the forefront the advanced concept of 3-demensional circumference amendment to offer more precise and accurate spectacle lens processing. This new processing methodology is fast becoming a critically important feature in today’s lens and optical crafting and finishing industry.

“We are deeply honored and grateful to have been selected and presented with this prestigious award from the Japan Institute of Invention & Innovation (JIII). NIDEK continues to focus on its core competency of outstanding R&D and commercialization of new and innovative instrumentation and methodologies for the visioncare and optical industries,” commented Mr. Hideo Ozawa, Founder and President of NIDEK Co. Ltd.

The following quote was given from the Japan Institute of Invention and Innovation (JIII) with regards to this award. “For the purpose of contributing to the progress of science and technology and the development of industry, this Commendation has, since 1919, been held to commend persons who have accomplished extremely excellent inventions full of ingenuity, creativity, originality, persons who have rendered distinguished services in the working of inventions, and persons who have greatly contributed to the promotion of excellent technology and to the guidance and development of human resources.”
