NIDEK CO., LTD. is pleased to announce that the Auto Ref/Keratometer ARK-560A was awarded a prize of “Silmo d’or” in the category of eye examination instrument in Silmo 2009, held in Paris, France from September 17 to 20.

Silmo is one of the largest international optics and eyeware trade-show with 32,000 visitors from all over the world in this year. Silmo d’or is the award given to the best eyeglass frames, ophthalmic lenses, optic and eye examination instruments. It was the second time for NIDEK to obtain this award, following last year’s for the OPD-ScanII.

Motoki Ozawa, President and CEO said, “We are honored to obtain this award. Our ARK-560A was now recognized that it can save the measuring time and can be effective tool for increasing sales of high functional lenses at optic shops, such as progressive lenses, thanks to this specific measurement functions. We keep up this momentum and continue to produce innovative and high-quality products for the development of the eye care field.”

The key feature of the ARK-560A is to measure human eyes subjectively by simulating corrected visual acuity inside of this instrument. Our Auto Ref/Keratometer, as well as the competitions, can measure the visual acuity and corneal curvature by invisible wavelength light without consciousness of patient. This unique feature enables to compare patient’s current and corrected visual acuity while the traditional Auto Ref/Keratometer could only provide objective measurement. In addition, this new model has substantial benefit for saving time and finding the necessity of correction, since the basic sequence of visual acuity examination can be done easily in one place in one body.
